Dr. Vijay Jagdish Upadhye is presently working as Deputy Director at Centre of Research for Development (CR4D) and as an Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, Parul Institute of Applied Sciences (PIAS), Parul University, Vadodara, Gujarat. After receiving post-doctoral research training from the TB Research Unit, Department of Respiratory Medicine, National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London (UK), he served as Post-doctoral Research Scientist at PD Hinduja Hospital and National Medical Research Centre, working on cutting-edge technologies for early diagnosis of Tuberculosis. His area of research includes Immunodiagnostics for Tuberculosis and Infectious Diseases (more than 12 years).

He has successfully contributed to over 27 publications on Tuberculosis, Infectious Diseases, Agriculture, and other microbiological aspects. He has more than 18 years of professional experience, including over 11 years in research, 4.4 years in industrial and administrative roles (as Head, Scientific Support - Diagnostics for Tuberculosis and other Infectious Diseases), and over 3.5 years of teaching experience (plus 4 years as visiting guest lecturer).

He has several awards to his credit including: Prof. G. P. Talwar Young Scientist Award, Asian Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemists (APCCB) Silver Jubilee Travel Fellowships, Best Leadership Award from Immunoshop India Pvt. Ltd., Best Teacher Award from Microbiological Society, India, two Best Poster Presentation Awards, Prof. R. H. Pandya Academic Excellence Award, and many more.

He is a life member of several scientific organizations and societies engaged in research in Microbiology and Immunology. As Deputy Director in the Research Cell, he is actively involved in scientific research promotion, sensitization programs on research methodologies, and grant opportunities from various funding agencies. He also serves as University Research Coordinator (UGC/NAAC/NIRF/ARIIA and other accreditation programs) for research data analysis and maintenance.

He is a recognized Ph.D. guide in Applied Science at Parul University and is presently guiding over three students. He received grants from the Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), Government of Gujarat, for research on the development of an antigen detection test for early diagnosis of Brucellosis. He also received funding from the Student Open Innovation Challenge (SOIC) under SSIP, Government of Gujarat, for developing an antigen detection test for early diagnosis of Hepatitis B infection.

Till now, he has successfully completed two international and three national projects. He is well versed with many advanced laboratory techniques including ELISA, Western Blot, PCR, IFA, CLIA, Chromatography (Affinity, FPLC), Electrophoresis (2D, SDS-PAGE), M. tuberculosis culture maintenance, Macrophage culture maintenance, Tissue Culture, RNA Extraction, Lyophilization, and Cryopreservation.

He is also working as a consultant with an emerging diagnostic company for the development of diagnostic tools for infectious diseases. He serves as Developmental Editor for the International Journal of Microbial Science (IJMS). He is actively involved in research collaborations with other universities across Gujarat and has delivered guest talks for university faculty members and students on IPR, Innovation, and Start-Ups.

Dr. Radhey Shyam Kaushal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Life Sciences, Parul Institute of Applied Sciences, with an additional association as a Research Associate at the Center of Research for Development (CR4D), Parul University, Vadodara, Gujarat, India.

He has been awarded the prestigious National Post–Doctoral Fellowship by DST-SERB, New Delhi at CSIR – Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. He earned his doctoral degree from Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra, India. During his post-doctoral research, he worked on the structural and functional characterization of oxidative stress proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis as potential drug targets against tuberculosis, focusing on cross-talk with the Fenton reaction.

He is a two-time recipient of CSIR-UGC JRF and GATE fellowships.

Currently, his research focuses on the following aspects of Bioinformatics and Structural Biology:

• Host–pathogen interaction targeting surface and metabolic drug target pathways/proteins.

Bio:

Dr. Radhey Shyam Kaushal is working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Life Sciences - Biotechnology, Parul Institute of Applied Sciences, and Principal Investigator of the Biophysics & Structural Biology Laboratory, Research & Development Cell, Parul University. He completed his doctoral thesis entitled “Bioinformatics, Biochemical, and 3D-Structural studies on putative virulence factors from Leishmania species” at the Department of Biotechnology, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, India.

He carried out Post-doctoral research on “Structural and functional characterization of oxidative stress proteins from Mycobacterium tuberculosis as potential drug targets against tuberculosis: A cross-talk with Fenton reaction” as a National Post-doctoral Fellow at CSIR – Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow.

Currently, Dr. Kaushal is working as Co-PI in an Extramural research project titled “Assessment - Water Quality of Ground and River Water and Identification of Causative Microorganisms causing Waterborne Diseases and Epidemiological Studies in the state of Gujarat” funded by ICMR, New Delhi. He is also working on an Intramural project on “Molecular Cloning and Heterologous Expression – Purification of Oxidative Stress Protein Complexes from M. tuberculosis” funded by Parul University (2022). He has published numerous research articles, review papers, and book chapters in international peer-reviewed journals.
